About Me
My name is Kathryn Long, and I have lived my whole life in West Los Angeles. Growing up, my career dreams shifted as I explored different interests--from children's book writer and illustrator, to artist, to English professor. Ironically, for a long time, these thoughts didn't included teaching elementary school. Now, I could not imagine doing anything else! Education:
University of California, Los Angeles English, B.A., 1999 French, B.A., 1999 Education, M.A., 2003 Fairburn Avenue Elementary Teaching Post: 2012 - present Prior teaching post: Wadsworth Avenue Elementary School, 2002-2012 Previous work experience: Museum of Tolerance at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Project Assistant in Youth Education 1998-2001 LAUSD Teacher of the Year, 2020-2021 Personal interests: Faith, family and friends, cooking, speaking French, ballet, playing the piano, jumping rope, calligraphy, drawing and painting, reading, writing, black-and-white movies, and all things peanut butter. Bit of trivia: When I was thirteen, I auditioned for the Joffrey Ballet back in the day when it was based in Los Angeles. (I didn't make the cut, but it was one of the most memorable and humbling experiences I've ever had.) Artwork: Watercolor painting of a bridge at the Ahwahnee Hotel, completed in Yosemite, July 2014. Soft pastel painting, Ballerina, completed at the Getty Center in 2001 Self-portrait, age 17 |
